Chemical Properties
Soluble in pyridine; soluble in glacial acetic acid, formic acid, acetone, methyl acetate and ethanol, etc. It is extracted from dicotyledons of Liliaceae: Aloe vera, Aloe ferox Mill. and Aloe vera var. chinensis. Aloin is a natural substance found in various aloe plants.
Aloin, a natural anthraquinone compound extracted from aloe, acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor. At physiological concentrations (IC?? = 97 μM), aloin exhibits significant antiproliferative activity, inducing S-phase cell cycle arrest and markedly increasing apoptosis in HeLa S3 cells (up to 24%). In the MCF-7 cell line, aloin reduces the proportion of mitotic cells by triggering apoptosis, inhibits Topo Iα protein expression, and downregulates cyclin B1 protein expression.
